ON-LINE PETITION!

DOGS FOR FOOD

In 1998 ten St Bernards from Europe and the USA were imported to China for dog meat breeding trials.  As a result the Chinese Government declared the St. Bernard to be ‘THE MEAT DOG OF CHOICE’ advertising its aphrodisiac qualities in business brochures designed to encourage the ‘farming’ of these highly intelligent animals. Large breeding farms were set up supported by web sites detailing rearing and housing requirements and spelling out the financial benefits of farming this breed for table meat.   At the same time a web site* was created by the Chinese Government calling for overseas investment in dog breeding facilities housing a maximum of 10,000 dogs.  Once again the financial benefits and expected returns were included to lure the investor.

Some of the details provided state that St. Bernards could be bred from the age of 8 months to 10 years because they live to twenty years of age.  They average 8 puppies twice a year and need to be fed a diet consisting mainly of maize flour and carrots and cabbage by which they will gain one kilo of weight on per day… all propaganda, as breeders and owners know!

When I started researching this, in support of the initiator of the current petition, I had hoped to find that it was all a hoax but, unfortunately I found that it was most definitely true.  In fact, all this and more.

This is my breed of dog.  I’ve lived with St. Bernards for 20 years.  It could just have easily been your breed of dog.  Since the start of my research, I have seen every breed of dog in every horrendous situation in Asian countries where –

§ Dogs are bred for food.
§ Governments are trying to expand the dog meat breeding industry.
§ The current fashion in some areas for pedigree dogs finds them abandoned by the thousands
after the novelty has worn off.
§ There are no animal protection agencies to work for these dogs.
§ Dog meat is considered an aphrodisiac; the more torture the dog is forced to endure, before
death, the greater the amount of adrenaline.
Quote “The more painful the death the better the meat”.

WITH ALL OF THE DOGS I HAVE SEEN I CONCLUDE THAT
THE DEAD ONES ARE THE LUCKY ONES.

By their own admission these countries have a limited gene pool.  Their literature states that they have agents worldwide endeavoring to purchase more breeding dogs.

Currently there is a worldwide petition calling on Governments to stop dogs that are to be used/bred for food being exported to these countries and calling on the United Nations to intervene to stop the inhumane treatment.  This petition will be ongoing until such time as the United Nations has declared that the use of our companion animals for human consumption is illegal in every country in the world.

This petition is supported by the North Island St. Bernard Association, Inc. of New Zealand who has provided much evidence of these practices contained on this site.

This letter is not designed to shock or offend, but to inform and encourage you to act to save these dogs.  Your support costs nothing, but it may save a dogs life.
